Assemble Play: Where child-led, free play is life
From the moment you step foot in this magical world spearheaded by very skilled Playworkers you can feel the shift from adult world to child led. Living and growing in a city often feels like there is little to no space for children to take the lead and confidently explore their surroundings in whichever way they need - unlike adults this can include the need to touch, taste, hear, throw, bounce, drag and much, much more. AssemblePlay works tirelessly to provide this experience so significant to developmental growth (even more so now that many of our children were required to follow our own stumbling attempts to navigate a suddenly deeply contagious and touch-phobic world). The premise is simple - an abundance of loose parts, a public space (often satisfyingly commandeered from the adults!) and some playworkers. The outcome is anything but! Watching children create, explore, break down, rebuild, forge alliances, break bonds and above all play unrestricted, you can all but hear the synapses snapping. Assemble have worked on many projects over the years, this is just it’s latest incarnation but if this kind of free, child-led, play focused project is of interest you can find more info here; www.assemblestudio.co.uk or for latest events follow them on insta; @assembleplay
