Woodland Tribe: Welcoming risk management

I had the absolute pleasure of coming across Woodland Tribe at a festival mid 2021. Having heard about their work over the previous years I was more than a little excited to finally dive into their hands-on, child led creations. Their key philosophy revolves around allowing children to take control of their own playspace - literally. Children/families are given hammer and nails, there is an abundance of various types and sizes of wood and over the course of a few days a wholly organic structure emerges. Watching these incredible projects grow and change entirely at the whim of the children who are building it for their own satisfaction and no one else is like a breath of fresh air. Children are actively encouraged to make their own risk assessments in terms of how the structure should develop, supported by families and a range of fully trained volunteers; the resulting structures are often akin to something you would see in an art gallery. Involvement at festivals is just one element of Woodland Tribes work so please do take a look at their website for more info on how they work and what they can bring to your community. www.woodlandtribe.org
